Why does preventing early birth matter to you?

  • Babies born preterm not only have short term medical problems with prolonged hospital stays but can have long term developmental and health problems and are at risk of dying early. These could have profound effects on their families. It is vital that we try to reduce the incidence of preterm births.
  • Whilst some preterm births cannot be prevented, simple measures such as smoking cessation or leading a healthy lifestyle can help to reduce the preterm birth rates. For this very reason, Boon Lim has been instrumental in setting up the Preterm Birth Prevention Clinic, which serves the ACT and southern NSW.
  • The is part of the Australian Preterm Birth Prevention Alliance initiative. The inception of this service has been made possible by the generous donation from the Liangis family in Canberra.
The Australian Preterm Birth Prevention Alliance is working to safely lower the rate of early birth across Australia.
